The TBA Committee met on July 8th from 2.45pm. Present were Julie Rhodes (P), Leigh Blizzard (T), Leonie Atkins, Chris Girvan, Sue Falkingham, Paul Fredheim, Fran Healy, Simon Edler, Katherine Marsden and Laura Bauermeister and the following matters were discussed:
Congratulations Hugh Fundraiser!
Our fundraising for Hugh was very successful culminating with the Individual Championship on June 29th which was won by John Grosvenor. We raised approximately $4500 for Hugh, and once again I would like to thank everyone for their donations of raffle prizes, money and time. A special thank you to Simon and Sue who donated a lot of time in organising and scoring the Individual tournament.
After much positive feedback, it was decided that we would run an Individual Tournament again next year.
Australia Wide Club Championship – calling Players with Under 50 MP!
The next ABF Club Knockout Teams event is starting in just a few days. It will be held online using the excellent Real Bridge platform. Play is on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm one match a month over 5 months. The first match is Tuesday July 22nd.
We have teams for each of the categories except for the Under 50 MP category
If you have fewer than 50 MP and would like to represent your club please email the TBA (tba@tasbridge.com.au) for yourself, your pair or your team. Sue Falkingham will be organizing our teams and needs to hear from you now.
Extra Red Masterpoint Sessions
The TBA will be running some extra Red Masterpoint Sessions between now and the end of the year, so keep an eye out for them if you would like the opportunity to top up. In July, they will be run on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st.
New Dealing Machine
Chris Girvan has been looking into our dealing machine situation as a result of reporting of dealing machine errors by our trusty band of volunteer dealers. As a result, we have decided to trade in our oldest machine and buy a new one. The faulty one will also be sent to the mainland for an extensive service. If you would like to learn how to use the dealing machine and join the band of dealing volunteers, contact Lynne Cooke who co-ordinates the roster.
TBA Signs with 1st Energy
After a proposal was put to the TBA by the son of one of our members, (Roger Sparrow) the TBA has decided to change our electricity provider from Aurora Energy to 1st Energy.
Several of our committee members are long standing 1st Energy customers and have been very happy with their service. Rates are slightly cheaper than Aurora Energy (see below) and the solar feed in tariff is better.
In addition, 1st Energy, has agreed to give the TBA $150 for every member that switches to 1st Energy.
Members who are interested in trimming their electricity spend and taking advantage of this offer should contact Roger Sparrow on 0438 538 985 or roger.sparrow@1stenergy.com.au
Members are able to sign small businesses too (the 1st Energy rates for small business tariffs are also cheaper than Aurora’s standing offer rates), and more than one residence (so that would be an additional $150 referral fee if a shack/business also signed up).
New customers who are RACT members also get $150 credit in first 12 months and non-RACT customers will get $100 credit in first 12 months.
In order to ensure that the TBA gains full benefit from your switch, please mention this to a Director or Committee Member so that we can keep our own records of this.
Bridge Etiquette – Tip of the Month
If you are scoring, and are dummy, please ensure that you put your hand out before starting to enter the score. This enables declarer to think about their play whilst you are entering the contract details on the Bridgemate.
