It has been a busy year at the TBA, ending on a high note in December with the a win for the TBA open team in the finals of ABF Australia-Wide Inter Club Teams Knockout, the finals of the year long Jackpot Pairs and the TBA Christmas Party.
The Christmas - New Year period is a quieter period, but there is still plenty of bridge for those who want to play. All regular TBA sessions will be on during this period with the exception of the two Monday sessions on Christmas day, the evening sessions on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th, and the evening session on Monday 1 January.
Coming in 2024
There is a full program of bridge planned for 2024. The schedule of planned events is available in the website's calendar and in the 2024 TBA Calendar booklet. Physical copies are available at the clubrooms, and an online copy can be found here.
2024 kicks off with the Vera Houdek Summer Swiss Pairs, a one day swiss pairs event on Sunday 28 January. The biggest event of the Tasmanian bridge year is also not far off. The Tasmanain Festival of Bridge will be held Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th March 2024 at the MyState Bank Arena. This is a great event, with something for players of all levels. Entries are now open on MyABF.
Masterpoint Promotions
The following members earned Masterpoint promotions in November:
Congratulations to these members.
Annual Subscriptions
The TBA uses the calendar year for our membership year, and annual subscriptions for 2024 become due on 1 January 2024. All members will recieve an email (or letter) from the TBA at that time with details of how to pay the annual subscriptions. This is also a great opportuntiy to update any member's details that have chanegd during the year.
Table Clothes
As mentioned in previous updates the club is working to acquire a new set of table clothes. Suitable material has been sourced and samples have been made by a local seamstress who will be engaged to now produce the remainder.
Bidding Boxes
The TBA has a number of left handed bidding boxes for members who like to use them. The has, however, been an ongoing issue with cards from right and left handed bidding boxes getting mixed. This reduces the usefulness of the left handed boxes. The TBA will be acquiring sevel sets of "ambidextrous" or "super" bidding boxes which can be used either right or left handed.
Colony 47 Christmas Appeal
As in previous years the club has been supporting the Colony 47 Christmas Appeal. Thank you to all members who donated so generously yet again. Our donations were collected by Colony 47 on Monday 18th.
Wishing all TBA members and their families a happy, healthy and safe Christmas, and the very best for the new year.
Regards
On behalf of Graeme
